WOMEN IN SERVICE MEMORIAL

The Military Women’s Memorial (officially the Women in Military Service for America Memorial) is the nation’s only major national memorial honoring all U.S. servicewomen from the American Revolution to the present day. At the ceremonial entrance to Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia , the memorial honors more than 3 million women who have served in or with the U.S. Armed Forces.

When the architects Weiss/Manfredi won the design competition to build the Military Women’s Memorial, they integrated a modern educational center into the existing, historic 1932 neoclassical hemicycle wall. The original wall at the ceremonial gateway to Arlington National Cemetery was built of granite.

Granite Incorporated served as a key stone fabricator involved in supplying and crafting the specialized granite components for the restoration and transformation of the memorial.  GI was tasked with creating the stone elements required to blend the old masonry with the new additions, which included crafting the precision stonework for the Court of Valor plaza, the runnel channels, and the reflecting pool structures.
